Our leader Laverne Cox is currently on a short tour through the UBN to talk to every head of state. During her stop in Marnia a protest was organised leading towards her visit. Her speech was postponed for several hours for safety reasons.

 

Lavern Cox’s goal

Our country is very well aware of its reputation in certain countries of the UBN. We understand that some countries have a hard time understanding our people and their journey to becoming the opposite sex. Lavern Cox made a statement in the beginning of her tenure that she will do everything in her power to mediate between all those who have a negative opinion about Lotoya. She also said that it’s important to stay in peace with the countries we have a good relationship with.

 

The protest

During our leader’s visit in Marnia, which was already controversial, there was a really troubled and aggressive atmosphere among the people of Marnia. A group of extremists started an organised protest against the visit of Lavern Cox in front of the town hall of Marnia, where our leader was to give her speech. A lot of people were holding signs with slogans against the existence of hijras. Things like ‘No more hijra’ were shouted several times. The police didn’t really do anything because a lot of them think the same way about our country.

 

Our leader reacts

Our leader was deeply disappointed in the actions that took place. “My visit was planned a long time ago, we announced it very carefully and with all respect for the Marnians. They were definitely prepared for my visit. This protest was not needed.“ she said. Of course our leader wouldn’t be our leader if she didn’t show her empathic understanding towards the protesters. “I know it’s difficult for Marnia to hear us out. But I am convinced that we will find a way to live together in peace. Hatred is never the answer. Acceptance is our main goal in this case” she hopefully mentioned at the beginning of her speech.

 

The future

The conference had to be postponed for safety reasons. Eventually the speech started four hours later. At the beginning of her speech some people were shouting insults. But with her strong appearance and convincing speech she kept a lot of people quiet until the end. There was even a small applause.

Our country knows that it will stay difficult to mediate with Marnia. But we will never lose hope and will always show respect towards every country despite certain different opinions and beliefs.
